I've been coping with GC related stress by meditating as much as I can. Meditation releases endorphines which helps you calm down and have a clutter free mind. I know it is easier said than done, but it works. I also take meditative walks on weekends. We have trails near our house which take me to deep wooded area away from traffic and everything. I walk about 4-5 miles on weekends. Lately not walking due to cold. I also listen to Deepak Chopra, Joel Osteen, Wayne Dyer on Youtube. Hope this helps.

Something to chew over -- this is a Secretary of State who won't even admit to major blunders in Iraq, she is not about to admit they screwed up on this.
but she's right. the US immigration law is extremely detailed and totally unforgiving. the country quotas being applied to employment visas looks like some lawyer gone overboard with putting constraints while writing the law, but now it is the law, and they don't change laws here unless there are votes or lot of money involved.
H1bmajdoor -- the blunder I am talking about here is making the dates all current (the original July bulletin) -- who the hell asked them to do that?? Why not move them another year forward? Had they done that I doubt USCIS would have panicked and gone crazy approving people without security checks, approving people whose dates were not current in June or even on July 2.
That had nothing to do with the law, or the ceiling set by law -- it was an arbitrary roll of the dice by DOS, a decision made WITHOUT consulting USCIS.

Your numbers on EB India visas are fairly close to accurate. 2008 will be very skewed in EB India's direction. It is just that the demand is even more greater than that.
Those H1b numbers for last year were really an eye opener for me. Sadly unless they decide to treat those issues in tandem, ie cap both or uncap both, this issue is only destined to get worse, recession or no recession.
On your point about the data not backing up people returning, that issue is multi-dimentional. Sure, if you have come here laid down roots, bought a house, have kids in school etc, you will have a higher tolerance for this crap, but we are in a new phase here, where we have people who came here legally and are now seeing unprecedented retrogression in EB immigration. There is no precedent for this in EB immigration, even pre-Ac21 the retrogression was not as severe. When was the last time EB2 had sustained retrogression over 5 yrs for that long? EB3 for 8 yrs sustained? Additionally those factors I mentioned are real, US citizen kids, eligibility for benefits base on accumulated SS credits etc. The US will eventually have to come to terms with those issues as will the immigrants.
Also newer immigrants will have reason for pause in their decisions. Some(the best ones) may not come, others that come will repatriate their savings, will not buy homes, etc. All of that represents behavior that would not be in the US interest. Of course I am not sure US lawmakers think that deep, but just saying.

I don't believe it must be FIFO...just as what I told in the other forum.
It must be:
FIFT - First In, First Touch
and then;

Yes we have done that in Vancouver ... Landing ... next day H1 interview ... the next day to collect passport, the next day return to US

Yup, kshitijnt you are right on target, we need to do some thing constructive and let our voices heard.
BECSufferer made it right heading...channel your anger.
My intention was more to think in right way and discourage potential -ve result bound strategies.
During presidential campaign there were all over promises on clearing backlogs, we can go on that basis and make a point of that.
One thing is clear if they like to stop outsourcing sure they have to encourage and stream line legal immigration they cannot stop or survive but cutting outsourcing as well leaving this legal immigration in limbo.
Besides what we can do at this juncture, keep our voices heard by contacting, writing letters.

Just got my checks cashed for I-485. I did not apply for EAD or AP with my 485.
Btw.. I did not have my medical exam and used the wrong G-325 form but still got receipted. I hope the second application I sent in does not cause any issues. :(

My attorney received my receipts as well as my wife's receipts...they sent me scanned receipts....PD Mar 2005...hand delivered to NSC on july 2nd...Received EAD 10 days ago...I-140 is from TSC...had a LUD on 5th august.....Receipts starts from SRC...it got transferred to TSC from NSC.. Received Date is July 2nd...Notice Date is August 14...

And I know a guy (a restaurant waiter from Nepal) got his GC in frikkin 14 months. And this was 5 years ago when I had just applied and now even today mine is still pending and that Nepali waiter who could not speak 4 words in English is now a Citizen and whenever I go to this restaurant for a buffet he keeps laughing at me and he is still a waiter in the same restaurant. I know him for 6 years. I get enraged at this countrys immigration policy. And I have met about 5 cabbies (Somalia, Pakistan, Sudan) etc etc who came here by winning visa lottery. And they are all citizens or GC holders. This is a mockery. This country has finally started to SUCK big time.

thanks for responding...any contradicting/second opinions? What is the exemption towards - both filing for 485 and processing of 485 too, right? Isn't it an exemption from the EB quota?
The exemption is just to file, the processing will however take what ever the regular processing time would at that point of time. I am sure that there is no provision to expedite the "processing" of I145.

Had two infopass appointments
Raised SR on 8/5/2010
Many calls to USCIS national customer service
Spoke once to second level IO
Also contacted local congress man and tow senators
My lawyer also contacted NSC regarding my case
Not sure what worked but finally got it. Thank god that this eternal wait is over.
Good luck to those who are all waiting.

I did try to talk to customer care but it was of no help.
They tell me to wait for 30 days and sometime 60-90days.
They say you will become actual permanent resident when you get the card The card is important.
You now USCIS don’t know when they will change their minds.
To better be on safe side to get it stamped on my passport. I took info pass on 09-11-08 it will be almost 30 days,
