- Flew into YYZ (with family), completed landing process last week
- Have expired H1-B stamp but approved I-797s
- Flew back this week on AVR
- No questions asked on both sides
- Stayed in Canada for a week. Its an amazing country with mix of good points from Europe (relaxed life, warm people ...) and USA (cleanliness, immigrant friendly ...) and a stable economy (atleast this far...). Overall, liked Canada alot
- Some people say, "its sheer luck", but many friends have done this without any problem. I would say "its sheer bad-luck" if anyone got into trouble doing this
- I would not suggest giving up the Canadian PR based on just rumors and no facts
- Have pending 140 and 485
- Have APs too, but did not use them

I-140 approval - March 2008
Spouse 485/AP/EAD applied - August 2008 (received receipt notices)

Till date I have not received my FP notice. I applied for my EAD (even though I am not planning on using it) hoping to jump start my pending 485 and get the things rolling for FP and processing of 485. Surprisingly, I got my EAD approval email on Aug 17th and I received my EAD card in the mail yesterday. It is valid for 2 years. It says finger prints not available. No change in the pending 485 status.
I am totally perplexed about receiving the EAD without FP and so is my attorney. Can someone give me an idea of what is going on? Any input is appreciated! Thanks much!

Anyways, paper based ead renewal donot require finger prints. Search the forum, this has been stated many time.

Hi - I currently have my H1B(H4 for my wife) valid till Mar 2011 and EAD expires on 10/15/08.
Can I skip the renewal process for now and apply for EAD later?
My lawyer says it is OK to skip for now and apply for EAD/AP anytime as long as I-485 is pending.

I also think green card lottery, chain immigration, and refugee green cards should be eliminated and those visa numbers should be used for employment based immigrants because all these people can immigrate just like us through employment. We contribute more to the American society and should be given priority. I guess when we become American someday, we would like immigrants who contribute to our community too. Isn't that right? :)

I bet if you had your GC or if you were a US citizen before you got married you would support chain immigration - after all what good is to be in this country if you cannot bring your wife over here? How about when your parents get old and they need care? Then you will curse the system for being unfair towards family based immigration. Afterall what good is a job if you cannot bring your family here?
Try to think beyond yourself. If not, your are no better than those opposing immigration. After all, even NumbersUSA is for immigration - as long as it is restricted to a few thousand a year! So is ALIPAC - they are for legal immigration but against H1Bs immigrating to the US. How are you any different from either of these organizations? As far as a someone wanting to come to the US on the family based immigration route is concerned - you are anti-immigration too.
